And maybe if you understood the situation from reading this blog, you’d know that what’s going on here is basically an epic failure of the system to get Zach the support he desperately needs. Maybe if you understood the situation, you’d know that the problem cannot be solved by simply “straightening up”…that those in service-providing roles are the ones who need to ‘straighten up’ so that they can help Zach do likewise. Maybe you’d also realize, the error of asking him to ‘act normal’ (I’m reading that as meaning to pretend there isn’t a problem?).

The powers that be in Zach’s area have basically been trying to put a bandaid on gaping wound, and it seems rather unreasonable to me to expect him to pretend the gaping wound isn’t there.

I have seen some people claim that it’s anti-Asperger’s for people with Asperger’s to try to act “normal.”

I have even seen some people claim IRL that it’s anti-Asperger’s for people without Asperger’s to try to act “normal” (for example, reading someone’s social cues and treating that someone as if s/he means what s/he says and does) instead of pretending they have Asperger’s (for example, ignoring someone’s social cues).
