Kalamazoo MS Walk…. er Swim

14 09 2008

So today I volunteered providing communications support for the MS Walk in Kalamazoo, and yes thats my peace of crap car there with its butt facing you.  It turned out to be a real shower, but I learned a lot as well about some things, and got to to share some things with others.

I learned that there are some really passionate people who are hardcore.  Over 30 walkers walked 3 miles in the weather and not one was in a bad mood about the weather.  People appeared cheerful, happy and really wanting to fight for a cause.

I was assigned to provide communications support for the Rest Stop (about the half-way point).  A lady there had MS and I shared with her I was Autistic, I learned quite a bit about her condition, and she learned quite a bit about Autism.

It was amazing to see how gung ho people were, and quite cheerful while it was downpooring on top of them as they walked 3 miles.  While most were well prepared with ponchos and umbrella’s - I’m sure most people were pretty wet.  And it was raining so hard during all this that water was literally shooting out of manhole covers.

Tommorow I’m doing the March for Babies at the Martin Speedway for a few hours before I go to church (which is planned to be an outdoor service).  I’m hoping for a much nicer day tommorow but its not looking like its going to happen.  For the rest of the pictures from the event please go to http://www.thezach.net/photo
